The Northern Rural Network programme of seminars provides participants with a valuable opportunity for learning in the field of rural development. Typically, government policy changes are explained, research findings are disseminated and innovative or exemplar projects are showcased, with ample time set aside for discussion. The programme is continually evolving in response to the views of the membership. For future events it is intended to explore ways in which learning can be translated into practical actions that will be of tangible benefit to the rural economy. The new approach is to be trialled in this seminar. The morning sessions will provide an overview of current developments in regional food. The afternoon sessions will focus in more detail on three distinct sub-themes and attempt to construct an agenda for action in relation to these topics. The intention is to achieve a high level of private sector participation in the seminar.
