Durham Friends of the Earth are hosting Adrian Hilton (Regional Climate Change Co-ordinator based at the North-East Assembly) as he talks on Climate Change and the North-East. This will be followed by a Durham FOE meeting at 8.30 p.m. (You are welcome to stay to this if you are interested; but you will also be able to leave after the talk and questions if you would prefer.) FREE - ALL ARE WELCOME - refreshments available from 7 An impressive amount of work is already going on in the north-east on what climate change will mean for this area; how we can seek to minimise it; and how best to adapt our region to the changes that are already in train. This work is being co-ordinated by Adrian Hilton, and his talk will be an excellent chance to inform ourselves on these crucial topics. Venue Because the topic is so important, and Adrian Hilton is an excellent speaker, we anticipate a high turnout, and our usual venue would be too small. We are therefore very grateful to Prof. Tim Burt for allowing us to use the Birley Room in Hatfield. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU NEED TO BE A UNIVERSITY TYPE TO COME AND PARTICIPATE! So please, don't feel shy about coming. Where is Hatfield? On the North Bailey, on the peninsula, a little north-east of the Cathedral. From the Bus or Train Station, walk in the general direction of the cathedral. That will take you to the Market Place. Go through that up Saddler Street (leaving the HSBC Bank to your left and Bimbi's to the right). The ground rises steeply, and a small cobbled street (Owengate) goes off to the right. Don't take it, but carry straight on. The ground levels out, and Hatfield is quite soon, on your left: you'll see a large tree, and then the chapel, a little set back from the road. The entrance is just beyond. The Birley room is in the bottom, far corner of the main courtyard; or you can ask at the Porter's Lodge (up the steps) for directions. See you there, Clare (Stancliffe) |
