Regional Faith Survey - Search

One of the significant outcomes of this survey and report is that for the first time we have a single database comprising all of the 1448 individual listed faith communities in the North East region, which we hope will be used for further faith community development work. The survey itself achieved a creditable 50.21% return and has enabled Kath Smith to report on its findings with a measure of real confidence. Faith communities, some 97% of which currently in this region are Christian churches of various denominations, are probably one of the least recognised yet numerically most significant groups, who continue to make an enormous core contribution at community level to the creation of social capital.

The survey was constructed so as to elicit further information on the social action, faith-based initiatives in the region. The results are both informative and encouraging in demonstrating work with children, families, poverty, community development, housing, credit unions, tourism, new communities (refugees & asylum seekers), rural and employment issues etc. This demonstrates the practical engagement by faith communities in regeneration at the local level and their significant potential to develop this contribution further, alongside other partners in the voluntary and community sector. - Read more by downloading the full report (4.5 MB PDF in a new window)
